Foreign Foods is an elective at MJHS. It is a class where students are able to make a bunch of different types of food. Sadly, this class is only available to 8th graders.  8th grader, Zion Brents, said, “I would recommend this class. My favorite part of this class was getting to make food.” During the 1st semester of foreign foods, students learn all about the nutrients that go into the food they make. After every nutrient students do a lab based on that nutrient. When students study protein, they will most likely do a lab dealing chicken or other meat. Students work in groups for labs.

When students get into the class, Ms. Escamilla chooses the groups based on the three people students say they want to work with. A student might not get all the people he or she wants to work with, but every student gets at least one person he/she wanted to work with in etc group .

Students have new kitchen roles every time the class switches labs. The jobs are chef, assistant chef, manager, organizer, and dish washer.

Starting 2nd semester, students will start the foreign foods part of the class. Students choose a country around the world, make a powerpoint about it, present it to the class, then the next class period the class makes a food from your country.

This class is great for students that love to be in the kitchen and explore the world foods and cultures. I would recommend this class to future 8th graders
